Worship Team

Picture of Daniel Williams playing guitar and leading worship.“REJOICE IN THE LORD, O YOU RIGHTEOUS! FOR PRAISE FROM THE UPRIGHT IS BEAUTIFUL. PRAISE THE LORD WITH THE HARP; MAKE MELODY TO HIM WITH AN INSTRUMENT OF TEN STRINGS. SING TO HIM A NEW SONG; PLAY SKILLFULLY WITH A SHOUT OF JOY.” -- PS. 33:1-3

The above verse contains two important concepts for all those wishing to be involved in the ministry of being used by God in the leading of His people to worship:

1.  “...praise from the upright” that is beautiful.  Obviously, none of us is upright in the sense of being without sin. However, our lives ought to reflect a genuine pursuit of righteousness in Christ if we are to be used.

2.  There is a call to “play skillfully with a shout of joy.”

If the worship team’s job is to make it as easy as possible for people to focus on and worship God – and I think it is – then we need to be proficient enough to play or sing with joy. Musicians have to play off a simple chord sheet while creating lines that invite people to sing – and while leaving space for other musicians to do the same. Singers have to learn and memorize parts that are clean and consistent each time, no matter who you are singing with. This requires selflessness and practice.

We have three different services at Calvary, and thus three different worship teams: Sunday morning, Saturday night, and Wednesday night. Practice times and needs vary.
