Life Groups - What Are They All About?

Join Pastor Chuck and Pastor Jon over a cup of coffee, to find out why Life Groups are so important here at Calvary Chapel Olympia.

GROWTH... Let's talk about something that God has been doing for, let’s see . . . over 2,000 years now! He’s been growing His church. For nearly 30 of those years, some of that growth has been taking place, whether you realize it or not, right here at Calvary Chapel Olympia. What is so exciting is not simply that it’s been happening, but how it’s been happening.

THROUGH HOME FELLOWSHIP...

From the earliest days of this ministry, God put in Pastor Chuck’s heart the desire to see Christ-centered relationships being nurtured within the context of small groups called home fellowships. Following the biblical model (Acts 2:42-47), he knew that consistent fellowship among believers, coupled with prayer and Spirit-led teaching of the Word, was the key to spiritual growth.

DEEP ROOTS... ABUNDANT FRUITS... Clearly, the Bible teaches that Christians grow(John 15:1-8) the same way all living things grow: by being rooted, fed, and cared for. To put it another way — roots lead to fruits! Home fellowship simply provides the most natural environment for this process to occur. It is where meaningful relationships are “planted” and nurtured over time. Our roots (faith) go deeper, and our love (fruits) grows stronger as we learn to “do life together.”

By now, you should have a picture in your mind of a plant, a tree, or a vine – something that is alive and growing. This picture comes straight out of the Bible, which is why we have chosen to use the name Life Groups to describe what the Lord is doing in our small group ministry here at Calvary.

Hopefully, it will communicate in a helpful way how you can sink some roots, if you’ve not already done so, and begin to grow alongside others in the body of Christ.

Here at CCO, you have Five Types of Life Groups to choose from.  Most groups average 8-12 people, and gather together in homes.  Although each of these groups has a specific focus, all groups will maintain a balance of the Word, fellowship, and prayer.
